Smart Home Budget for the Working Stiff

1 minute read

I have two scenarios lined up… A simple lighting setup that could work for a livingroom/kitchen, and a more complex setup that would work for the whole house. Both of the options below make use of Leviton dimmer switches and a Vera Scene controller.

Simple Lighting Example

This is a very simple budget that will likely be enough to automate the lighting in your entryway, living room and kitchen. I have included a scene controller from Vera to controll all of the z-wave light switches. This is the scene controller that I currently use, and have found to be very reliable. Dimmer switches from Leviton are very nice, as they allow you to set up scenes with varying amounts of light for different times of the day or for different functionality.

Leviton Lamp Dimmers 2 $35.95 $71.90

More Complex Setup

This is a more complicated setup, but allows you to have a fully automated lighting system, a connected audio system, and video surveillance of your home. This setup is very close to the setup I have in my home. Did I mention voice control with Alexa?
